PacMat Part II: Coloured Blinky Prototype

I picked up the second PacMat drinks coaster prototype today. This one has the character painted out.

I’ve decided on the materials to be used in the final version of the set. Next stage is the packaging, and I’m torn between environmentally responsible and cost effective. I’m leaning more towards the best design idea at the moment.

In addition to the packaging, I’m getting to a point where I can pin down the cost to manufacture a number of sets. Stay tuned for more.

good stuff man.
Hey Matt, its looking good! I have a few comments, though. I know this is a prototype, but what thought have you given to the edges? In the photos, the edges look pretty rough. A polished edge, or a really smoothly grained edge would look very good, but will, of course, increase the production cost considerably. As for the packaging, does it really matter? I mean, acrylic isn’t exactly environmentally friendly itself, is it? What about a card or plastic package similar in style to the video game cartridge?
A final thought: Have you entertained the idea of making these out of laser-etched crystal? The stuff can be had so cheaply from China that it might be possible to make them in the more durable material for not much more than acrylic.
Good work!
